Leipzig is the city of the book trade and bohemian lifestyles. The New York Times even called it the “Better Berlin”. Student life, culture and nature make up the cityscape. You can enjoy a drink in one of the numerous cafés and bars, spend time at a lake or in a park or visit one of the more than 50 museums about art, music, nature and technology.

Leipzig is especially famous for its university, which was founded in 1409 and therefore is one of the oldest universities in Germany. The St. Thomas Church is a must-see. It is widely known for its Thomaner boys’ choir and has been the domain of Johann Sebastian Bach who lived in Leipzig from 1723 to 1750 and worked there as choirmaster and musical director.

Just as impressive as the church are the main station, which is the biggest stub end terminal in Europe, and the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, which reminds its visitors of the battle that took place in 1813. Rising 91 meters into the sky, it is one of Europe’s highest monuments with a viewing platform from where you have a great view of the city.
